From Lori walking you can get some idea of the huge area covered by the monument. The petro-glyphs are all along the rocks in this vally which is a healthy hike but not tremendously far from the Rio Grande River. What is impressive is to pick up a rock and try to add your own to the collection. The black surface corrosion over the white rock is extremely hard and to break through takes a tremendous effort. The earliest samples appear to be just scratched into the surface but later images are much deeper and must have taken hours if not days to produce. They have a brochure showing many of the better images and it is like a scavenger hunt trying to find them all. We'll be back.
