We visited New Breman in 2007 as part of our stay at Lake Loramie and saw the lock being renovated so we wanted to come back and see the finished product.
They have done a very impressive job of restoring the lock like 1910.
The lock is now the central jewel in the city with an adjacent park at the head of a short bike trail, easy access to downtown, and right next to one of the original pioneer log cabins. Ya, it's a tourist trap but a very nice place to visit and just wander around to enjoy the history of the area.
I actually showed this picture on the Ohio page when I was writing about 2007 but I included it here in 2010 because it shows what the lock was like during construction. Unfortunately I do not have picture of the the lock before they started the renovation but it was probably not pretty. The Miami Eire Canal site has a lot more background on the lock and canal but it's rather dry history.
